Background

Dr. Terman graduated cum laude in the history of science from Harvard College in 1989. After doing a year of research on health and aging at Rush Presbyterian St.-Lukes Medical Center, he attended the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. Dr. Terman completed his internship and residency at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill, North Carolina between 1994 and 1997. He then served as chief medical resident at UNC during the 1997-1998 academic year. Dr. Terman joined the Associates in Internal Medicine in June 1998.

Dr. Terman has received awards for excellence in teaching throughout his career. He received the award for best teacher as an intern at the University of North Carolina Medical School. Later, he was part of the Associates in Internal Medicine when the group was awarded for its teaching by Northwestern University Medical School. He taught anatomy as a 2nd year medical student and went on to teach courses in physical diagnosis, biostatistics, medical decision making and problem based learning while an attending physician on the medicine services at the University of North Carolina and Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He continues to actively participate in the education of medical students and residents.

Dr. Terman has conducted research in the history of medicine, neurology, and nephrology. He is published in the field of geriatrics. His current research interest is in medical decision making and uncertainty.

Dr. Terman served on the Committee for Medical School Admissions for the University of Chicago and continues this for Feinberg School of Medicine of Northwestern University. He serves on the pharmacy and therapeutics committee at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, an interest he began while at UNC. Dr. Terman has served on the peer review committee for the Chicago Medical Society. He was a founding member of the working group for decision analysis at the University of North Carolina.

Dr. Terman has been board certified in Internal Medicine since 1997 and is a diplomate of the American College of Physicians/American Society of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Terman practices general internal medicine with an interest in difficult cases, diseases of the blood, cancer and autoimmune disease. He believes in open communication with his patients so that, as a team, the best health and health maintenance is achieved.
